Purnell Harvey

Purnell Harvey began his career in 1995 as a sixth-grade teacher in the Orleans Parish Public Schools (Louisiana) before moving to Dallas ISD in 1998 to serve as an instructional technologist. Harvey returned to Louisiana in 2000, joining Jefferson Parish Schools as a special education resource teacher before joining Aldine ISD the following year to serve as a science teacher at Bethune Academy. In 2003, he moved to Houston Academy to work in the same capacity. His first leadership role came in 2008, serving as a district elementary science skills specialist at Calvert and Spence elementary schools. The following year, he served as an academic assessment and data specialist at Eckert Intermediate School (now an elementary campus), where he served six years before joining Carver High School in 2015, serving in the same capacity. Harvey joined Spring ISD in 2016 as an assistant principal at Spring High School. Four years later, he joined Westfield HS (SISD), serving in the same capacity, a post he held until being named principal at KEC in July 2023.

Harvey earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of New Orleans. He also holds a master’s in educational administration from Lamar University-Beaumont. Harvey also received his principal certification

Dr. Garner-Simmons

After earning her bachelor’s degree, Dr. Kim Garner-Simmons worked as an English teacher in Navasota, Texas. Shortly afterwards, she became employed at the J.W. Hamilton State School (Texas Youth Commission) in Bryan, Texas, teaching high school and middle school students English, as well as writing an English curriculum for Texas Youth Commission. She then spent six more years teaching middle school and high school English in Houston, Texas, before becoming an assistant principal of administration in 2001, in Houston, Texas. She transitioned to her current position at Knippel Education Center in 2004, serving as an assistant principal of curriculum and instruction in Houston, Texas. Dr. Garner-Simmons currently serves as a member of the Texas Association of Alternative Education. In 2008, Dr. Kim Garner-Simmons co-authored a book titled, Fading Glory: Contributing Factors to the Decline of America’s Public Schools. In 2021, she published an article entitled “Fighting the Good Fight” written in collaboration with other administrators nationwide. Dr. Kim Garner-Simmons’ philosophy is “Our job is to teach the students we have. Not the ones we would like to have. Not the ones we used to have. Those who we have right now. All of them.”

Lenora Jones-Smith

Mrs. Lenora Jones-Smith began her career immediately after high school by joining the United States Navy as a Personnel Specialist where she successfully served 8 years. After being honorably discharged, Mrs. Jones-Smith became an ESL Paraprofessional at Eisenhower High School in 2013. In 2014, she began her first year as an ELA 7th grade teacher at Compass, now renamed Knippel Education Center. While at Knippel Education Center, she filled several roles such as RTI Teacher, Dyslexia Specialist, and 7th/8th grade Team Lead. In 2022, Mrs. Jones-Smith was named Assistant Principal of Knippel Education Center. Mrs. Jones-Smith received her Master’s Degree from Texas Southern University, where she is currently in a Doctoral Program. She is married to Cecil Smith Jr. and together they share three empowered daughters, Amorea Jones, Kimori Smith, and Haven Smith, who motivates her daily. She is a transformational leader whom specializes in low academic performing students and at risk students.

Mr. Colvin

Colvin received his bachelors’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry in 1992 from Prairie View A&M University. He earned his master’s degree in educational administration in 1997 from that same university. He is certified as a principal. He began his teaching career in 1992 at Smiley High School. In 1996, he moved to CEP High School in HISD and returned to Smiley High School a year later. In 2004, he was named assistant principal at East Houston Elementary School and in 2005 he relocated to Tidwell Elementary School to serve as an assistant principal. In 2008, he moved to Hilliard Elementary School to serve as an assistant principal. In 2010, he was named the interim principal at Rogers Elementary School in HISD. In 2013, he moved to COMPASS as a biology teacher. Colvin has 18 years of experience in the field of education.
